Brief History of Type

Typography is all around us. From street signs to books and television to the internet, we encounter typography daily. What is typography? Typography can be defined many ways, one being the style or appearance of text. It can also be defined as the art of working with text. This book (a research paper turned into a book) follows the history of Typography over the years and how some of the most popular typefaces are used today.
