Shelved

Shelved is a book organization website idea that I came up with to help organize my books better. The following is the design process.

About

I collected a data set of one hundred books on my bookshelf and organized into ten different categories. Once organized, a static design was created to visualize and easily access all the information that was collected. From there an interface design was created to add more information to the existing data set. The interface would show how the individual can interact with the collection by either search the collection or adding to it. So, I created Shelved, a website where books can be organized. The viewer can sign in and search their book and add more to their collection.

Data Set

To create the data set, I collected information (number of pages, book spine color, release year, etc.) on 100 books that I had on my bookshelf.

Static Visualization

I then created a static poster of my data set to visualize the information.

Interactive Visualization

After the static visualization was created, it was time to create an interactive version. That was how the idea of Shelved was born. I wanted to create a website for organizing books that was unlike some of the book websites that I used in the past. I wanted a place to organize my books but, also be able to grow my bookshelf and share it with others.

Animated Visualization

The following is an animated visualization of what it would look like to have an account on Shelved.
